Natural Eye

Ice Matt Gartside 22" x 33"

If you want an excuse for a trip to Clitheroe to take in the tearooms, charity shops and quirky independent retailers, you must go to see Matt’s exhibition at Longitude Gallery in Clitheroe. It is called ‘Natural Eye’ and Matt has 7 important, large and best of all beautiful pieces in it. Its a really interesting exhibition comprising of 4 photographers each with a different approach. It is comparatively rare for a British gallery to promote photography so well done to Andy and Sarah at Longitude.

It opened on Saturday 10th and is on throughout January and February. Matt does all his own printing and has even made the frames using upcycled wood which harmonise beautifully with the subject matter. They are glued together with blood, sweat and tears and are retailing at £295. There are smaller mounted prints in the galleries browser from £50. Here are some photos from the opening today.

Aly is also looking forward to exhibiting at Longitude, hopefully sometime around May. Watch this space!

Do pop in…

Our next Open Studio is on Sunday 14th December, 11 am to 6 pm. More details of workshops etc to be released soon. In the meantime, here is an amusing picture of Matt ‘gallery bombing’ with his Cow at Arteology in Colne. What more could you possibly want?

September Open Studio – report.

Thanks to all who came to our September Open Studio. It was the first time we had offered workshops at an open studio day and we were really pleased with the response. We had a steady stream of visitors all day, and it was great to see new faces amongst the old friends. Visitors enjoyed interacting with both activities and it is definitely something we will do again.

One of our visitors was 14 year old Megan from Long Preston. She really enjoyed setting up, shooting and editing some photographs of stones under Matt’s expert tutelage and spent a long time getting it all exactly to her liking.  Here she is hard at work along with the finished product.

Any suggestions for titles?

In the pen and ink workshop, sisters Tara and Caitlin enjoyed exploring a new medium. Only one bottle of ink was spilt the whole day – though by an adult, not them! – which was less than Aly manages when working on her own. Both workshops were enjoyed by both children and adults.

Our next one is the second weekend of November as Alyson is at Kelbrook Art Fair the first weekend. We are hoping to offer workshops again. And the traditional home made (by Aly) cake.  Please note that there is no Open Studio in October due to other commitments.

Workshop fodder for the masses - let them eat cake.

Open Studio Latest

Thanks to all those who came to our June Open Studio.

This will be our last one until September 6th as we are both off on holidays at varying times throughout the summer. There will be one or the other of us around most of the summer so if you wish to call in just ring 0777 3583072 or 07803 151699 for an appointment. Or, if you’re passing and the A-board is out, just pop in.

We were really pleased that quite a few local people from Kelbrook and Sough called in and liked us enough to ask to be on our mailing list. Just fill in the contact form at the bottom of this post to do the same.

It was also good to see Matt in full portrait photography mode as he was doing a ‘Prom Dress Special’. Some of the local soon to be high school graduates turned up in their prom dresses and finery for a photo shoot as classy and elegant as them.

Above are a couple of the results.

If you would like to book a Prom Dress Special photoshoot ring Matt on 0780 315 1699. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes at the studio and costs just £15. This offer is available until the end of the school term. This includes an A4 print of your favourite shot. Extra prints are from £10 for an A4, £15 for an A3.  Discounts for runs of 3 or more.
